Good Food Tasting Pā'ina
Our first ever vegan food tasting event was held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Kōkua Market, Honolulu's only natural food co-op. With an aim to show people how delicious and easy it is to switch to plant-based alternatives, we offered free samples of Field Roast sausage in marinara sauce, SoDelicious Coconut Yogurt with Kōkua Market Granola, and Miyoko's Cheeses on organic crackers.
Over a hundred people stopped to taste on their way to or from grocery shopping, and some specially came because they heard about our pop-up event. People tried samples, often coming back for more and we heard them say, "can't even tell the difference!" and "tastes just like pork!"
It was awesome to connect with our community members and plant seeds by having them try vegan alternatives of common treats that they otherwise would not have.
In addition, we offered free educational brochures about the vegan lifestyle.
All ages were welcome to partake in the yumminess, play, and hang around for good food, conversation, and music. That's what a pā'ina is all about.
Mahalo to our friends at The New Flex for playing music in the courtyard, and VegFund for making this event possible.
